Cheshire East Building Regulations function continues to demonstrate competencies
The Building Regulations function delivered by the wholly owned Cheshire East company Civicance Ltd, has been at the forefront of raising building standards across the region.
Recognising the need to demonstrate competency within the Building Regulations/construction sector, following the Grenfell tragedy and subsequent Hackitt Report, has proven a huge task for Local Authority Building Control. However the organsiation has risen to the challenge and developed a framework for all levels within the profession. Knowone is exempt from the requirements and this includes technical/support staff. In the first wave of candidates Civiance supported two employees who have successfully acheived Level 3 Certificate in Technical Support for Public Service Building Standards.

Both Issy and Hannah work in the Civicance Business Support Team, a relatively new team created in December 2018 assisting in the daily delivery of the Building Control service providing financial, validation, and process support throughout; ensuring the expected level of service from validation to professional site inspections is a seamless one for the customer.
The qualification, which has been undertaken since May this year and required 140 hours of study focuses on the development of the learner’s knowledge and skill set enabling the efficient processing of building control workload in line with statutory timescales. It also focuses on the delivery and performance standards, as well as how to process/handle information appropriately to users of the service.
This acheivement further builds confidence in the departments competency following on from two members of staff achieving Level 6A LABC Building Standards Fire Safety Specialist status earlier in the year.
